It’s Oscar weekend here in L.A., and I thought this would be the perfect time to talk about why you should have celebrities as clients and how a celebrity spokesperson can help your business achieve great success. Many fashion designers’ careers have taken off thanks to a single simple question on the red carpet: “Who designed your outfit?” And yes, I’m aware that we’re actually supposed to ask them #AskHerMore.
Social media has made it easier than ever for celebrities to share their favorite products, services, and travel destinations. That doesn’t mean I’m suggesting you simply offer your services to every celebrity with a million followers or send them products, but I do suggest you figure out which celebrity might be a good fit for your offering—and realize that in today’s oversaturated market, having a celebrity talk about how great you are can be more valuable than a magazine article. My client Ali, pictured above, regularly sells out clothing and products she features on her blog AliLuvs and on her social media; that’s real influence.
Here are five reasons why you need celebrity clients:
1) CELEBRITIES MEAN MEDIA COVERAGE: For entertainment magazines and news programs (including E!, US Weekly, People, Access Hollywood, etc.), this is really the only thing that matters: having celebrity clients. To be clear: Not every celebrity endorsement automatically leads to media coverage. The celebrity must be a relevant figure who is of interest to the magazines. So pay attention to who is featured time and again.
2) CELEBRITIES INFLUENCE SALES: If you have the right celebrity promoting your product, service, or business, it can lead to your product selling out and you becoming highly sought after. It can make the difference between very few people knowing your business and everyone knowing your business.
3) THEY GIVE YOU CREDIBILITY: It’s not just the entertainment media that cares whether or not you have celebrity clients. Even Vogue magazine recently asked me which celebrities have visited a luxury spa I represent.
4) THEY CAN HELP YOU GROW YOUR AUDIENCE: I know for a fact that my clients who are mentioned by celebrities on social media grow their audience exponentially faster than those who aren’t. In fact, this is the best way to gain more followers on social media.
5) CELEBRITIES ARE FRIENDS WITH OTHER CELEBRITIES: If a celebrity likes your product or service, there’s a good chance they’ll tell their friends about it. This can create a snowball effect. I know a well-known nutritionist in Los Angeles who gave a gift to the stylist of an A-list celebrity. The stylist was so impressed with the service that she told her celebrity client about it. That celebrity wrote a foreword for the nutritionist’s book and eventually told all her celebrity friends about it; that nutritionist has since appeared on just about every major talk show and in countless major magazines.
